Halloween

I love October. I love Halloween. It’s probably my favorite season and time of year. In that same thought, it occurs to me that I haven’t subjected you to much bad poetry in a while. Didn’t think you’d gotten off easy, did you? Don’t worry, there’s some legitimate stuff coming down the pipe,  but in the meantime let’s trick or treat…

Welcome, welcome, ladies and damned
It’s a packed house but there’s room to stand
You’re about to witness the most amazing thing
The phantasmagorical terror it brings
Will chill your bones and rot your soul
Eating at you ’till you can’t be made whole
He’s the final wonder of the world
Men will weep and flesh will curl
After you see him there’s no point to living
Forsake all you are in the spirit of giving
To convince yourself you aren’t for the noose
In the terrible raving he will set loose
It’s good news for all, the rat race is through
Couldn’t outrun him, nothing to do
Are you prepared? Have you steeled your spirit?
Or could it be that you already hear it?
The wailing of things thought long forgotten
With feral cries and voices rotten
Avert your eyes, it will do you no good
Already you wear the hangman’s hood
Tight in the throat or light on your feet
That’s just his hosannas clanking beat
Sing along if you know the tune
Join in and embrace your doom
Are you prepared? Have you steeled your spirit?
Or could it be that you already hear it?
The awful gnashing, chattering chorus
Of unclean children that calls out to us
His many abandoned, orphaned throng
Now weaving their world killing song
Their rhymes that lash and chords that bleed
It’s far too late, you wouldn’t take heed
The warnings came to you in dreams
Feverish nightmares that glimpsed through the seams
To where he waits behind this stage
For you only to turn the page
Are you prepared? Have you steeled your spirit?
Or could it be that you already hear it?
Time is short, his hour draws near
There’s no refunds, or exits, I fear
So turn down the lights and strike up the band
Ladies first, just take my hand
Draw back the curtain so all can gaze
At this, simply this, the end of your days…

Happy Halloween!!!

Hand of Glory

Trying to get back on the writing wagon. Polished an older piece a little bit ago. It is yet still more other bad poetry, but I’m not subjecting you to another Minutes entry for the time being. This one is still simplistic but has the benefit of time and revision over the purposefully raw Minutes. Presented for your consumption, the third part of the cycle begun by the earlier XIII. Where is the second part? Well if somebody asks nicely I may post it as well. Its just that its an early effort that still needs a little refurbishing. Now, without further procrastination…

Hit the pavement
On the ground, start to run
Urban jungle
You’re the blood on the stone
You’re an outlaw
Force your way on your own
Cloak and dagger
Know that you’re not alone

In the thieves’ world
In the sinister alliance
Another bloody block
Another crime of defiance
Knives in the dark
Etch the lines of my story
See by the light
Of my hand of glory

Hear the music
Fists like thunder
Black symphony
Tear the world asunder
Razor edge
Eyes wide with wonder
In the shadows
Feel it pull you under

In the thieves’ world
In the sinister alliance
Another bloody block
Another crime of defiance
Knives in the dark
Etch the lines of my story
See by the light
Of my hand of glory

And in the candlelight
Hear the silence of the dead
I will not be afraid to fight
Beneath the moon baleful and red
And in the whispers of the damned
See the faces of your sins
In your shallow grave you stand
Witness how the devil grins

Running faster
From the man with your fate
Pound of flesh
Repaying your debt of hate
Breath your last
Feel the black pall’s crushing weight
See the reaper
And you know its too late

Minutes On My Mind, Part Deux

I know I promised more substantive writing, but things are still kind of crazy right now, so to keep up with my promised posting schedule I’m padding things out with more lame poetry. Enjoy! (Or not, as your tastes dictate)

Lovestruck madman
Tough luck scat man
No words to tell
Tell no tales how I fell
Pull the arm, turn the clock
Chick chock, tick tock, close the lock
Wedding bells on my mind
Don’t know what I’m looking to find
Cherubim on the chimes
Feels like I’ve got no time
Time to tell, time to keep
What I’ve sown I’m gonna reap
Air raid siren calls the tune
Wilted flowers may yet bloom
Run in circles, from myself
Poster boy for mental health
Feet on pavement, got no payment
For my bills, society’s ills
Want to heal, don’t know how
To fight these demons, serenity now
That I’ve gone, to the place
Where I can let my dreams keep pace
With what I see when I’m awake
I pray the lord my soul to take

Minutes On My Mind

Minutes On My Mind is something of a personal writing project. I take five to ten minutes at a go whenever I have a few to spare and just write whatever comes out. Kind of a forced stream of consciousness with only the barest of editing. I think if anything comes out of it that’s worth sharing I’ll post it here. My most recent entry:

Oscillate between extremes of anger
And asking God if he would answer
Why he made man’s tribulations
Sorrow, pain, and consternation
Why can’t we be as he made us
Before losing innocence betrayed us
Once when we were full of joy
Before with free will we destroyed
The paradise that we were given
Seeing that it was not heaven

If You Didn’t Think I Was Pretentious Enough – XIII

Something else from the vaults as long as I’m dusting off relics, that most angst-ridden of expressions, the poem/song. Also, if you ever needed proof that I am a truly irredeemable nerd you need seek no further. To these ends I give you the following.

XIII

For summers of steel, and winters lean
I fought for Caesar, and the bloody thirteen
Across the land, through storm and sand
Graves unmarked, but our hearts in Rome
I fought in Asia, and I fought in Gaul
Goths and Celts, I’ve fought them all
Franks and Vandals, beneath my sandals
Now the war is over, but I can’t go home!

Jupiter Optimus and blood-stained Mars
The honor is yours and the glory is ours
Never a doubt that I would do it again
But glory alone doesn’t feed my kin

I was promised a farm, with rich black earth
A free man’s dream, the harvest and hearth
I lost my hand, to a Parthian sword
But then all I got, was a kindly word
I did my tour, put in my time
Too many o’my brothers, heard Elysium’s chime
I honored the standard, I held the line
Now all I want, is what they said was mine!

Jupiter Optimus and blood-stained Mars
The honor is yours and the glory is ours
Never a doubt that I would do it again
But glory alone doesn’t feed my kin

Now could I stand, beside my band
Against our home, against sacred Rome
We’ll be damned for our scars, for crossing our stars
But we’ll defy our fate, and we’ll carry that weight!

Jupiter Optimus and blood-stained Mars
The honor is yours and the glory is ours
Never a doubt that I would do it again
But glory alone doesn’t feed my kin

For blood red summers, and winters cruel
We fought for the banner, our strength to rule
Across the world, our standard unfurled
But now our wars are over, and we’re all coming home!
